There are no major changes to the weekday times, but its worth noting a few changes where trains run a little earlier. The 0932 to London Paddington is now at 0929. The 0830 to Penzance will now leave at 0825, with a July and August service change to a High Speed Train leaving later at 0835. For the surfers amongst us, I am pleased to say that this 0835 train will connect at Par for a Newquay train.
The biggest change which unfortunately happens every year is a reduction in services on a Saturday with a big gap westbound during the middle of the day. We have chosen to show the 1218 eastbound service in 'blue' as a westbound option as there is a special rule that allows Saltash passengers to travel via Plymouth, you pay no more, in fact you just get a normal ticket that should show Saltash and your destination.
The great news this summer is that we have managed to put forward a case for the an extra service into Cornwall on a Saturday morning. It is the 0934 to Penzance and will be an 8 carriage High Speed Train, and will definitely be the train to catch. You should also note that the Saturday 1645 from Penzance, back into Saltash at 1840 is also a High Speed Train, so it is possible to travel both ways on a more comfortable train.
On Sunday we gain a westbound service at 0926 until September, make good use of it and we might be able to get it year round.

Almost all of Saltash is within 20 minutes walk or 10 minutes cycle ride from the station - it may be hilly in parts but using the backways it is a pleasant trip and gets you some of your daily exercise as well. The new timetable leaflet is now available - the front cover is Yellow and you should put any Blue ones out for recycling immediately as there are some significant changes. The main peak hour trains remain the same, but we have gained some additional services in between. Also there are weekend changes at the end of the summer (7-15th September) so don't get caught out by those. Of course we are still seeing significant 2 hrgaps during the day in both directions and we need to see a much better Sunday service. The timetable leaflet can be picked up from the Station, the Guildhall, the Library or you can download a copy as a pdf file from here: May 2008 Full Timetable (168.85 kB) - just the timetable page

The Days Out by Train from Saltash leaflet is now available as a download (pdf) Days Out from Saltash by Train 2008 (244.77 kB)
Printed copies are usually available at the station. Leaflet gives times and sample fares for day trips from Saltash to destinations including Penzance, St.Ives, Falmouth, Newquay, Looe, and Paignton/Torbay as well as Exter and Truro. Its amazing how cheap it is with a Devon and Cornwall Railcard. |
